Republic Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). It was founded by Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman as an independent label in 1995, and was acquired by UMG in 2000. Republic was initially an imprint of the Universal/Motown Records Group, and was renamed Universal Republic Records after a reorganization in 2006 before reverting to its original name in 2012.
Artists signed to Republic Records include Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne, Amy Winehouse, Nav, The Weeknd, Jessie J, Greta Van Fleet, Taylor Swift, Black Veil Brides, Andy Black, Lorde, MIKA, Lindsay Lohan, Christina Grimmie, Florence and the Machine, Post Malone, Hailee Steinfeld, Julia Michaels, MDFMK, Austin Mahone, 3 Doors Down and DNCE. Its country music subsidiary Republic Nashville has signed Florida Georgia Line, The Band Perry, and Eli Young Band.
On February 25, 2020, Twice was signed with Republic Records for their strategic global promotion in the U.S.
On September 13, 2021, Republic Records has announced the launch of its new independent music company: Imperial Music. It has been the company's soft launch during the year of 2021 and Twice became officially under Imperial Music. The company is made to support the next generation of musicians and creators.
